Team Building Activities to Improve Productivity in the Workplace

What team building activities does your company carry out?  During my first week at Office Suites PLUS we had lunch at Gattitown.  It was a great way for everyone to take a break from the office, enjoy some delicious food and have some fun (or at like kids).
Team building activities don’t always have to be about getting out of the office though.  There are many reasons a company may use team building exercises. Some of these reasons include improving company communication and morale, ice breakers to get to know each other, learning effective strategies and improving productivity.
Over the next few

Motivation Initiatives for Your Workplace

The success of any business depends largely on the motivation of their employees. Motivation is the key to creating an environment where optimal performance is possible.  So how do you ensure that individual motivation is at its peak within your workplace and employees?
Everyone has their own set of motivations and personal incentives to work hard. Some are motivated by success or recognition while others are motivated by cash incentives. Whatever the incentive is, the key to promoting motivation is understanding.  Employers need to understand what really motivates their employees.
There are a lot of initiatives that can be implemented within a

Are You a Facebook Fanatic?

I originally was going to write about Finance on Fridays but after thinking about it, who wants to think about finances on Fridays?  It’s the end of the week and most of the workforce is probably already thinking about the weekend.  So, let’s make Friday fun!  Topics of discussion on Fridays will vary from Social Media to finance or trends in the business world.  To keep things fresh, I’ll try to keep the topics different on a weekly basis.
Today I want to touch base on social media.  Social Media has become a predominant aspect of marketing.  I mean, if you

Does Your Workspace Enable Productivity?

As you sit down at your desk this morning, ask yourself what is appealing about your workspace?  There are so many answers to this question.  Do you work in a space with an open-plan office where one size fits all?  Or is your workspace a cubicle?
Does open an open-plan office or coworking lead to happier and more productive teams?  As we learned yesterday, TEAM can stand for Together Everyone Achieves More.
I personally, have worked in both situations and can see the advantages and disadvantages to both.  Years ago it was common for office-based employees to work in their own space,

Employee Motivation Factors

Alright, listen up!  If you are getting ready for work or are already at work on this beautiful Monday morning, I (or anyone else for that matter) do not want to hear your complaints about having the Monday blues.  Yes, you’re back at work after a weekend of fun, and you may feel tired, unmotivated and overall gloomy.
Wonder how to get out of the Monday blues? Think about what motivates you.  Is it success or money?  Most people are motivated by some combination of several factors.

Achievement:  Achievement-oriented people like challenging tasks, clear goals, and specific measures of success.  They tend

Finding extra hours in the day

What would you do if you had an extra three hours per week? Of course before fantasizing about all the ways you could use that time, you might be asking yourself where on earth you could find three extra hours.
According to 2009 US Census data, the average commute in the United States is 25.1 minutes (yes, I realize the people in Atlanta are probably rolling their eyes at this point). This means that on average, people are spending 4.18 hours per week commuting to and from work, assuming a five day work week.
Many Office Suites PLUS locations are in areas

Holding Down Costs For a Startup Business

Starting a business takes moxie and determination. (A little bit of a scrappy mentality doesn’t hurt, either.) Recent economic conditions certainly haven’t reduced the need for any of these qualities, and while starting a new business is never an easy choice, some have viewed it as their only choice, when considered against high unemployment rates.
Those entrepreneurs that have taken the plunge already know how difficult the road can be. Business startups consume all resources—time, money and thoughts. In exchange, the young business owner receives a steady diet of stress regarding an uncertain future and financial limbo. Well, that’s the downside,

When Technology Changes the Business Environment

Whereas some company areas (like cash flow and personnel needs) can be tough to predict over the long term, one aspect businesses of all types can count on is change. Indeed, the progression from the first, ancient merchants and traders to the techies of the 21st century has been a drastic one, and while no one needs a business plan that anticipates centuries of innovation, a few years (or even a decade) of foresight can mean the difference between lifelong success or a brief flash in the pan for a business owner.
So what are the forces that drive changes in

The Morphing of America’s Office Space

When commercial real estate fell on hard times, along with the rest of the economy several years ago, debate inevitably began about how the recovery would look. Was there enough commercial real estate already built? Would commercial real estate building starts eventually recover to prior levels?
The assessment of existing commercial real estate is more complicated than it may first appear because the crux lies not only in traditional features (like location and square footage) but also in how the internal space is configured. Essentially, each space will require evaluation based on its suitability to the modern worker and workflow.
This is
