Keeping Employees Happy with Flexibility
There is always talk around corporations about unconventional employee perks. For instance, at the Office Suites PLUS corporate office, we have doughnuts on Fridays. In past positions I went to baseball games and always had activities after work hours which were a lot of fun and very motivating.
Have you heard about the Googleplex for Google? They have slides to get from one room to another and even offer laundry services. How cool and motivating. But if you the means to provide laundry services or office massage chairs to your employees, how do you attract the workforce’s top notch workers?

FacedIn. Twootle+.
FacedIn. Twootle+. WHAT Did I just say? Oh boy, is it Friday here! After a busy week, I’m finally getting back into blogging. Social media has definitely taken over the internet world. There are so many social networks that I am having trouble keeping them straight. I have talked about it before, but as you all know, I’m a Facebook fan. I used to be a Myspace fan back in the day, but as Facebook became more popular, I ventured my way over to become a Facebooker. Now, I don’t know where to go. Do I twitter or do I google+
A Paper Tower Teaches the Importance of Time Management
Who played Two Truths and a Lie? Isn’t that fun! It’s such a great way to get to know one another and to break the ice between employees!
Today I would like to talk about the Paper Tower. The Paper Tower is a planning activity that teaches participants the importance of planning, timing and thinking on their feet. Give each participant a single sheet of paper and ask them to construct a tall free standing structure. Participants only get 5 minutes and no other materials.
After the five minutes are over, discuss who planned out their structure, who ran out of time
Using Twitter for Business
Who gives a ‘tweet’? I will be the first one to admit, when Twitter launched, I was slightly over whelmed and confused with the mass amounts of ‘tweets’ that was flooding the social media world. I mean, I am at heart a Facebook fan. I didn’t understand why people felt it was necessary to tweet every moment in their day, but after several years of analyzing the social media medium, I get it now. I now give a ‘tweet’…well, at least for business purposes.
And if you are a business, you should too! Twitter is a great way to connect your
Is Your Office Working?
Is your office working for you? There has been a lot of talk recently about forgoing the traditional office and working remotely or virtual. But would this office really work for you? Working ‘on the go’ you are forced to heavily rely on free public Wi-Fi and to have client meetings at coffeehouses. Is this a secure way of running a business, on the go?
Forward-thinking business are starting to think outside the box of outdated real estate philosophies that include long lease terms, heavy upfront costs and little or no flexibility. These businesses are now looking at the workplace differently
Breaking the Ice in the Workplace
Last week we reviewed the classic egg drop game. How many were successful and how did it improve communication? Did it force your employees to work together as a team?
Let’s switch directions a little this week and focus more on icebreaker exercises. The Two Truths and a Lie game is a competitive game that helps encourage better communication in the office, while at the same time helps everyone get to know each other a little better.
Here’s how to play:
Start by having everyone write down two truths about themselves and one lie on a small piece of paper. Make sure to
Successful Traits for Entrepreneurs
Originally I was struggling about what to write about related to motivation this morning, but then I received this amazing email from one of our Director of Regional Sales and Operations about our suite manager in Annapolis. Karen Symos has been named the 2012 Woman of the Year by the Maryland Capital Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. I was immediately motivated!
This is an amazing honor for her and the company. It is the highest honor of an American Business Woman Association group can bestow on one of its members. We are very fortunate to have Karen as one
Going Green with Technology
Friday is finally here! Sometimes I think Friday is never going to come! In the spirit of Earth Day, I wanted to talk about easier ways to use less. I know we can’t save the earth by ourselves, but together as a team we can make a difference. Since technology is such a primary factor in our daily lives, there are a few things that we can do to do our part!
Have you ever thought about carpooling? Sites like RideShare.com help carpoolers connect. You could also take public transportation, if available. Or ride your bike on a nice day!

Transitioning to a Coworking Space
Is it time to start coworking? Have you been holding meetings in your home office with clutter lying all around you? If so, it might be time to move your short-term office needs to a coworking space.
Before thinking about switching to a ‘shared space’ evaluate your business practices that are currently in place. In my opinion, a coworking community can help with productivity but you must make sure that your employees understand the procedures. Be clear with your employees on what you expect from them. Go over check-in and leadership policies ahead of time. The space will allow workers to
Personalizing Your Workspace
It’s Workspace Wednesday and I would love to see your workspace! What makes it unique? Is it colorful, bright or fun? Have you personalized it?
On average you spend 40 or more hours a week in your workspace, so why not make it your own! Before diving right into painting walls, hanging pictures, bringing plants in, think about the type of company. Is it conservative? If it is, you might want to go easy on the modern décor.
Start with your walls. Are they boring tan walls? Think about painting them a bright color or using some colorful fabric and attaching it
